General limit of coverage
If a deposit becomes unavailable in a general and permanent way due to a credit institution is found to be unable to meet its obligations to its depositors, in accordance to applicable law, the Hellenic Deposit and Investment Guarantee Fund pays compensation to depositors.
The compensation payment covers a maximum amount of one hundred thousand (100,000) euros. This means that all deposits of the same depositor in the specific credit institution are added in order to determine the limit of coverage. For example, if a depositor maintains a savings account of 90,000€ and a current account of 20,000€, he will only be reimbursed for 100,000€.
